Texas does not have alimony in the traditional sense.  In Texas, to qualify for alimony, or spousal maintenance, the parties have to have been married for 10 years, the division of the community estate is not enough to meet the party's minimum needs, and the party does not have the job skills or education necessary to meet the party's reasonable minimum needs.  Spousal maintenance is also available in instances where family violence occurred within three years of the divorce.  Alimony is also available on a temporary  basis in certain situations.
